2021.11.29 18:26 stillmadabout Old World Conquers New World: Update Nov. 29 2021

Hey folks,
Tbh was amazed at the response I got to my last update, I love you all. This update took a bit longer because I have barely played this game, November got really busy for me.
As a recap, I started a hotseat game (inspired by another post here on this sub) and it is all the civs of AfroEurAsia, minus Venice and the Zulus, on "Yet another Earth Map". Venice because they are irrelevant in an already over-crowded Europe, and Zulus because I forgot to add them.
Oh and domination is the only allowed victory condition.
This means the Americas, Pacific, and Australia/New Zealand have no civs on them, and are ripe fertile land for colonization for the old world civs come the age of exploration.
Update: Celts: They are the founders of Europe's religion of Catholicism, but they have really struggled due to a lack of cities. They are behind in science, and therefore could not really take advantage of the age of colonization. They own Newfoundland and Northern Quebec, but they really do not have much else and likely will be absorbed into their neighbor England sooner rather than later.
England: European naval and colonial superpower who now is in a war with Austria and Denmark for their combined war effort against Poland and Sweden respectively. Their colonies are a sight to behold, and they host the the largest and third largest cities in the New World. Their weakness is that despite their glorious navy they lack an army, and truthfully need to secure more oil ASAP.
France: Their new world colonies are really struggling. They just have not been able to invest like the English or Spanish have. France seems to be the type of civ that is going to last as long as a superpower hasn't targeted them. They are building an army on the European mainland tho to try and build an empire.
Spain: Spain is in ruins. After investing heavily in the colonial project, Portugal and Morocco commenced a large joint invasion of their homeland and their colonies. Spain just doesn't have the resources to effectively fight back and their holding on for dear life.
Portugal: From their single-city of Lisbon, Portugal now rises as a major global power. Their navy is the largest on the planet and it gives them the ability to roll up to whatever territory they now consider theirs and take it over without much fight. This is especially true for colonies which tend to have smaller armies at their disposal. They are currently in the process of taking over Spanish-held Caribbean and Florida. They also colonized New Zealand. New Lisbon is the second largest city in the New World.
Denmark: Nicknamed the idiot kingdom, they built a navy and invaded Sweden. It turns out Sweden is much more powerful and is kicking the Danish's butt. They very well likely will be taken over completely or nearly completely by the Swedish soon.
Sweden: After colonizing the Hudson's Bay and Great Plains area of North America, they were invaded by the Danish. They had the Danish at the gates of Stockholm, but once their advanced Gattling Guns arrived, the pre-industrial Danish military was dismissed. Now Sweden marches towards Copenhagen, showing no mercy to their Danish foe. This war that Denmark started could create a Scandinavian superpower.
Poland: Invaded by Austria, Europe's mainland superpower, they have shown to be incredibly resilient. The most the Austrians have been able to do is pillage a few farms. Poland's cities are fighting off the Austrians so effectively, it is unlikely they will lose a single city. They have firmly entrenched themselves as the Eastern Wall against Austrian expansion.
Austria: Europe's big daddy civ, they bring terror to all of their neighbors. They made a strategic network of alliances with Spain, Denmark, Italy, and the Ottomans. This has been a disaster for them, as it turns out their allies are incredibly weak and/or stupid. Austria is trying to save face in their war against Poland but England is making them divert too many resources towards their western coast. Austria is going to have to come up with a new plan if they seek to win the game.
Italy: Surprisingly competent, they were invaded by Carthage from across the sea and despite fighting valiantly have surrendered everything but Milan to the Carthagian navy. Rome now serves as a city whose primary purpose is internal food trade routes to Carthage. They are effectively eliminated.
Ottoman Empire: They were the Middle East's new kids on the block. Powerful and industrial, they took over Greece (included a bit of Northern Egypt) and looked poised to defeat Assyria (ME Old Guard) in a major war and firmly establish themselves. However the Assyrians, seeing the writing on the wall, spent every dollar they had, launched a surprise invasion of the Ottomans and now took all of Antonia except for Istanbul. The Ottomans have an outside shot of recovering, but they will have to intelligent.
The Huns: they do nothing. They are so boring. So far behind. They are trying to not be crap, but that is harder than it looks. Turns out you can't bully everyone when everyone is an entire era ahead of you in tech.
Assyria: The old sick man of the Middle East who just got a new lease on life. After a glorious war defeating the Ottomans, they have turned their attention to Arabia and look poised to take them over and (finally) have full access to the world's oceans.
Arabia: They appear weak, however their colonies in Western Australia are paying them dividends and this newfound wealth will allow them to fight a surprisingly competent defense of their homeland. Would bet they lose, but not without a fight.
Persia: They are effectively just a buffer state between Assyria and India. They would like to invade a few city states, but that is easier said than done.
Egypt: Ethiopia, Africa's superpower, is currently invading them. They will be wiped off the map shortly. Doesn't matter what they do now.
Carthage: A weak nation who managed to build a surprisingly large navy and take off all of Italy except for the north. Their pathway to winning will be strategic alliances, and strategically terrorizing coastal cities/civs with this navy they possess.
Morocco: Kinda hard to explain. A weak but ambitious civ. They are invading Spain and may actually do something.
Shonghai: Very ambitious. Their new world colony (Mexico) is really paying off for them, and they may actually be able to defend against Ethiopia if they come knocking.
Ethiopia: Africa's super power, effectively everything below the Sahara is theirs. They are invading the Nile region and will soon turn their attention elsewhere. They are communist too, so its like an African Soviet Union lol.
India: Powerful, and increasingly ambitious. They will likely engage in war soon. Looking at taking over some Persian cities in what is Pakistan, and think they can take over Sri Lanka. They see the writing on the wall and know they cannot survive, Assyria, China, or Mongolia if they do not start building out now.
Siam: Small, and weak, but acting incredibly intelligently. They will likely play border state between China and India as long as they can. But who knows that they could accomplish.
Indonesia: Kind of in a weird position. Their spawn location meant a very difficult isolationist early game, but they have very rich islands to colonize nearby. If they play their cards right they could become a South East Asian super power who cannot be invaded without a massive navy.
China: One of Asia's superpowers with Mongolia. A war between the two is brewing. China is building defensive capabilities and really thinking strategically about how a war may go. Hard for both sides because capitals are so close to each other. Knock out punch may win the day for either side.
Mongolia: A Siberian superpower. They span from the Urals all through Alaska. They have resources for days. Biggest issues are a lack of naval capability (took so long to make it to Pacific) and cities have relatively low population compared to China. They will win through raw strength.
Korea: Colonized what is today British Columbia. Gone Freedom route and built the Statue of Liberty in Seoul. Kinda funny, as they are completely surrounded by Order and Autocratic states. They are small but they will benefit from having superior tech, and are thinking they should use that advantage now before the end game where tech advantage disappears.
Japan: They rule the west coast of the USA and most of the central pacific islands. They have really turned their focus away from the affairs of Asia and seem determined that their hopes and dreams will be realized via a giant Pacific empire. Only time will tell, but they are stronger than they were before the age of colonization. They also are building a large navy to protect themselves from a foreign invasion.
That's all folks. Remember to like and comment if you like/appreciate these updates. Will include pic the moment someone has an adequately filled in map. Happy Civing!
